During his testimony before the Senate Appropriations defense subcommittee on the Defense Department's fiscal year 2017 budget request, Marine Corps Gen. Joe Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, emphasized that the department must "maintain a joint force that has the capability and credibility to assure our allies and partners, deter aggression and overmatch any potential adversary."
